BPP Rent & Ride – Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to our FAQ section! Here you’ll find answers to common questions about BPP Rent & Ride’s community vehicle sharing service.

1. What is BPP Rent & Ride?

BPP Rent & Ride is a collaborative transportation initiative between Buffalo Point First Nation and the RM of Piney. We provide a cost-effective and eco-friendly community vehicle sharing service designed to enhance community connectivity through group travel.

2. Who can use BPP Rent & Ride services?

BPP Rent & Ride is available to approved community organizations and groups within the Buffalo Point First Nation and RM of Piney partnership region. Once approved, these organizations can book vehicles for group travel.

3. What vehicles are available in your fleet?

Our current fleet includes a 2023 Toyota Sienna (a 7-passenger hybrid van) and a 2018 Ram ProMaster 2500 (a 10-passenger wheelchair accessible van). Both vehicles are maintained regularly to ensure safety and reliability.

4. How do we become an approved user?

To become an approved user, your organization needs to:

Complete the Approved User Application Form.
Submit a $500 refundable security deposit.
Review and sign the User Agreement.
Complete a self-led orientation.

5. What are the rates and fees?

BPP Rent & Ride operates on a $1.00/hour rental rate plus $0.40/km for both vehicles. Additional fees may apply for late returns, cancellations, or no-shows. Fuel costs are the responsibility of the user. For a complete breakdown of rates and fees, please refer to our Rates & Fees Policy.

6. How do we reserve a vehicle?

Vehicle reservations must be made at least 3 business days in advance by contacting BPP Administration. Reservations can be made up to three months ahead of time. The minimum reservation period is one hour, and reservations can last up to seven days consecutively.

7. What driver requirements need to be met?

Drivers must:

Be authorized by the approved user organization.
Be at least 21 years old.
Have a valid Manitoba Class 5F (full stage) driver’s license.
Complete a self-led orientation.
Follow all guidelines in the Driver Use Policy.

8. What happens if there’s damage to the vehicle?

Any collision or damage must be reported immediately to BPP Administration and, if applicable, to the police. The approved user organization is responsible for any damages that occur during their reservation period. Details on collision liability can be found in the Driver Use Policy.

9. What types of trips can we use BPP Rent & Ride for?

BPP Rent & Ride can be used for a variety of group trips including sports events, medical appointments, recreation, senior outings, family visits, community events, or trips to the city. The service is designed to support multiple passengers traveling together to the same or similar destination within Canada.

10. Can I take the vehicle to Roseau for shopping or appointments?

Vehicles must remain within Canada as per the terms of the funding agreement for BPP Rent & Ride.

Last month I volunteered to drive people from our area that require cancer treatments in Winnipeg and Steinbach. Someone I’ve known all my life needed cancer treatments in Winnipeg five days a week for four weeks. Staying in Winnipeg was not an option.
I was to drive on Wednesday mornings and the BPP Rent and Ride program has helped me to do this.
Candace explained how the program works and has been very helpful in having the van ready to go every week in co-ordination with Southeast Cancer Support Services.
If the BPP Rent and Ride program didn’t exist, I may not have decided to do this ongoing.
I encourage other people who would like to help drive patients to their treatments to consider the program.
